Our good friend Miss Haley Star just released a new video, “Dating Drag Queens.” Is this a “hellz to the no” for you when it comes to dating? Are you one to judge the book by its sparkly amazingly contoured appearance? Here is what Miss Haley Star and special guest Davey Wavey have .
By Amelia Hamilton There is some weird stuff going on in the most unlikely of places—public libraries. The event was hosted by the Southern Maryland Area Secular Humanists or SMASH, as the group calls itself and featured sex educator and former pole dancer Bianca Palmisano talking to teenagers ages twelve to seventeen about sex. Despite protests, about a dozen students took part in the class, and it was completed relatively peacefully. Why was a pole dancer talking about sex to children in a library in the first place?
Yes, the event was held in a room the library allowed outside organizations to pay to rent, and the Constitution protects our right to gather, but the existence of such events suggests not only some questionable parenting choices on the part of those who encouraged their kids to sign up, but also questionable judgment on the part of a growing number of library administrators. And yet, libraries are apparently doubling down on such provocative events.
Drag Queen story time, a library-sanctioned event, is spreading across the country. Drag queens stopped by New Orleans for the first time on July 8, hosted by beauty blogger Kimberly Clark. Two drag queens are scheduled to visit the Monroe County public library on July 21 to read to and sing with kids, which library associate director Jane Cronkhite says is a natural fit. George pointed out that such mockery of nearly any other group in a publicly funded forum would not be tolerated.
The problem with libraries hosting strippers is the same one that plagues libraries hosting drag queens: But as anyone who cares to pay attention will immediately realize, in fact they are a way to introduce children to one particular way of thinking—the accepted liberal view of sexuality—which is why you find drag queens and strippers, not pastors and police officers, at these story hours.
Truly open-minded programming would present kids with a wide variety of readers from across the political spectrum, not just the same old drag queens.
Behanna noted in a letter to parents that “a handful of people have expressed concern over the presence of a drag queen in our middle school. She explained that she is a performer who, though a man, portrays a woman for her performances. She detailed her background in the performing arts throughout middle and high school, talked about her dream of being a teacher, then explained how she earned a business degree from Colorado State University,” she explained. She used the text to illustrate the damage bullies can do, the need to always put kindness and acceptance at the forefront, and the shortsightedness of judging a book by its cover.

Posts 1, Well let me jump in here. A feww years ago I was in Hotlanta with a group of CDers. We went to a local gay club that was featuring a show called Drag Races. I got to talk for some 5 min with their MC. A person called Ru Paul. At the time I didn’t know who I was talking to. I was the only CDer who stood as tall as Ru Paul. Since then I had never been to a local drag show until about a year ago. I went the first time to be in a LGBT setting in dress.
I am an openly gay writer fortunate enough to have a diverse array of intelligent, curious people in my life. After fielding the same questions from people in different facets of my life, it dawned on me: Many people do not know the difference between trans women and drag queens! Even the most well-meaning, modern people can be ignorant of the nuances of gender and performance.
Everyone learns about this stuff differently.

The Between Two Ferns vibe in All Stars was so stilted and largely uninteresting can you recall a single moment? But boy was I wrong! This, in many ways, felt like the first time we were seeing these girls drop the shiny reality-TV masks they wore for most of the season, and really act like, well, drag queens. Thankfully, this reunion does not dedicate an entire segment to each girl, doing away with the convention seemingly for good after season seven.
The producers also do a pretty great job of picking out the moments from the season that we actually want to talk about, even if they felt somewhat slight in the actual episode. Best of all, Ru decides to open up the library for all the queens on the stage. What we get is by and large much better than the actual reading challenge we saw during the season.
